UFO's and WIP's

I finished the Hermione's Everyday Socks!they were a present for my mom and since today was her birthday I couldn't find a better time to give them to her. She's a little camera shy but I did get 1 picture of her modeling them.
I think they turned out really well, but I need to work in the Kitchener Stitch.
Really good, well written pattern.
My awesome sister gave me a late birthday present that I am totally excited about! Corriedale Spinning Batt! It's gorgeous!
It's more purple, the picture doesn't do it justice.
I did finish some Handspun. I have a really big monster I spun up, it fell of the ball winder and it was my first time using a ball winder so I do apologize that it is sloppy.
Ooh! That reminds me! I didn't show you the package from KnitPicks that came in the mail Thursday!
Gorgeous really.
I also started another pair of socks on the way to TBF ( more on different post).
It's a different ball of my Handspun that I'm using, it's really soft but I still have more than 4 oz. left to spin. Probably shouldn't have bought 8 oz. of the same thing.
I only got the cuff of the socks done and they're from the pattern book Joy of Sox by Linda Kopp. It's  called a Roll in the Hay. The yarn isn't at all close in color to the yellow straw color they used which they think is hay. Hello, but hay is green!
Anyway thanks for listening to me catch up. It was a long post.

Birthdays and Progress!

On Friday it was my birthday and I can gladly say it was awesome.
First I need to mention this newly made FO. It was that Irish Hiking Hat I mentioned a while ago. Let's just say it was a wee bit bigger than expected. My dad's okay with this because he got a new winter hat! :)
Do you see the beautiful crocheted afghan in the background?
I also turned the heel on the second sock. Not much progress really, so I won't bother you with a picture.
I started plying these singles I had. It was variegated so I tried Navajo Plying for the first time, it's not as hard as I expected it to be. It's basically just a crochet chain.
I finished 1/2 bobbins then I still have another 4 oz. to spin from Spinner's Hill.
Isn't it so pretty?
I'm going to try posting at least once a week now, lets see if I can do it!

P.S. Isn't this lovely weather great?!

Socks and the Stash :)

Today after my sisters basketball tournament I talked my mom into taking me to the Village Yarn and Fiber Shop.
Before I talk about the WIP socks.
They're going along well, I just finished the first sock. So don't want to weave in ends. I also cast on the second one.
Now about the spinning fiber ad yarn I got. It's all so pretty! I got a lot of alpaca, not all of it though.
There's some Silkpaca from Malabrigo nestled between some baby alpaca Rowan.
Now up top is some Luxe Alpaca is some yarn my mom fell in love with but will never use.
The red is beautimous hand painted Mountain Color with this hypnotizing Crazy Zaunderball yarn from Schoppel.
Sorry I didn't finish many WIP'S but I did get some spinning fiber candy. Hand dyed from Holiday Yarns. It's more pink than the picture shows though.
 Have a happy fiber weekend!

New Reads

I picked up some new books to read from the library!
The first one, Cold Calls is a good read.
It's about some teens who were blackmailed into bullying some classmates. They band together to find out who is blackmailing them. I'm only half way through it, but it seems to get better as it goes.
The second one, The Rule of Thirds is amazing! I'm not going to say much but it's about a teen photographer and she is just a genius! But then let's just say some  trouble comes but love always saves the day. At least in this case.
I've been doing some bus knitting lately. I get a lot done.
Drum line starts up again this Friday! Can't wait!
I apologize for the bad camera work but I stink at taking pictures.
Hope you have a knitty fun week (Even though I can't share progress).

Knitting Around

I apologize for not posting in a while. In 2 weeks it while be my birthday and my dad has promised to take me to the yarn store. In the meantime I'm trying to use up the stash so I have enough room for more yarn, pattern books, and maybe needles.
In the meantime I'm working on this baby blanket called Little Checks. I'm not that far yet but it's okay because I have until October.

Have you noticed? I figured out how to post pictures!
I'm also making a pair of Hermione's Everyday Socks. If you search it on Ravelry it should pop right up.
They don't look like much yet, but they're getting there. Love the pattern though, it's super easy to use. Although I'm a little confused on the gusset directions.
I've started reading the blog My Sister's Knitter, it's really good! I even went into the archives to find past posts.
Also, here a plain pair of socks I made a month ago. I'll try and get better at posting regularly.
They're not finished in the picture above but I promise that they are.
It's really just a month of WIP's.
Wish me luck!

Agh! Blogger Gone Bad!

Wow this is way worse than last time. School has not been my friend lately. Way too much homework, sick days, and pure laziness has kept me from blogging.
Lately I've been working on a basic pair of toe up socks. If you want the pattern you can find it on knitfreedom.com
I'm also still working on that hat. Don't laugh at me but I already gave up on my lenten promise, may GOd forgive me, but my spinning has been too tempting that's why I haven't gotten much knitting done.
I desperately want to go on a fiber shopping spree for some angora. It's so soft how can I keep resisting temptation?
I'm also excited to hear that I have another niece or nephew on the way. Can't say since I don't know it's gender yet. And we shall call it Wild Child.
I'm not sure if I have any followers so I wanted to know if I had any before I announced a giveaway/raffle thing. So leave a post in the comments.

Spinning Tragedy

I'm so sorry I haven't blogged in a while. I have no excuse. So let me bring you up to date.
Since I have to have more than one project going this blog may take a bit. First I finished those lovely Zig Zag Socks in some old Elann Sock it to Me collection yarn. Although I don't recommend it because the pattern doesn't really show up well. I'll make sure to have some pictures up soon.
Now I'm working on this gorgeous cabled Irish Hiking Hat designed by Nicole Reeves. I'm doing it in teal and I think I'm going to give it to my drum line instructor. By the way we beat Dundee! Squeal!
These socks are really beautiful but I'm already having difficulty with them but I shall not give up on the prettiness! These are the Cimorene socks designed by Becky Greene. I wonder how she came up with the name for them?
Last but not least is the Diamond Waves Hat designed by Kaleigh McLelland. My dad has promised me a trip to the yarn store tomorrow to get yarn for this. The yarn in my stash isn't quite right for this project.  It's going to be my first fair isle project it was recommended for beginners. Hope I can figure it out!

Now for the Spinning Tragedy I mentioned in the title. As some of you may know lent started yesterday. I made the most giant mistake of my life and gave up my spinning. :( These next 6 weeks are going to be rough. Who am I kidding! It's already dreadful. I welcome support.
I'll post a picture of the bobbin I was working on before lent started. It's this beautiful hand painted merino blend from Spinning Hill in Bainbridge, NY.

We want to know what you think is the most random. So leave your opinion in the comments.

A bet is relying on this so choose carefully.

Best Day Ever!

I'm so excited because we're going to go to our first Percussion Ensemble competition. The only downside is wearing a ton of make up. We also got wifi! Yes, I know finally entering the 21st century. This also means I can start posting pictures! I'm also have my brother order the Phat fiber box for me while I'm gone. Could this day get any better?

Drama!

It feels that this week has been stress filled. It's actually made me start to make me fall into old habits. Tune out in school, forget knitting, etc. I feel like I don't even care anymore. It's just that my parents don't care my dad doesn't even really have an excuse. Sure he's a workaholic but he shows up to all my sister's basketball games. My mom is a stay at home one but the only time she gets out of the house is go to my sister's stuff. It's kind of unfair you know they'll take me to the stuff I want to do but I don't get support. I bet if my sister wasn't in Percussion Ensemble my parents wouldn't show up to that either.
I guess it doesn't matter, I have friends that support me, that's all that matters. Sure, I'm the smart one but I'm also the neglected one.
In spinning matters I lost the beginning on my bobbin again. Can't they invent something to find it for you?!
I'm finishing up on this knitting pattern, the Twisted Sisters Cowl, suffering from my Startis (If you read Worsted For Wear you would understand this) I haven't finished the Zig Zag socks which is really pathetic, and I've only finished the ribbing on one of the Manly-Man Man Mittens. Double-pointed needles are evil!
It goes so much slower! :(
Can't wait for our first official Percussion Ensemble Show in East Irondequoit this Saturday! I'll keep you posted!

P.S. My sympathy to Weekend Knitter on her injured skein of hand-spun. :(

Fishy Knitting!

I forgot my dad's birthday is this Saturday so I had to give up my spinning. I had a sick day yesterday which sort of helped between the coughs. Today school was cancelled so I'm doing pretty good. What am I making? Manly-Man Man Mittens! My dad has been begging me for a pair of convertible gloves for a while so I hope these work. I found them on Ravelry and besides the difficulty of using dpn's it's going pretty good, I totally recommend them.
Sorry I couldn't get the picture smaller.
On the other hand I want to make a big long term project that won't be too  big on the needles. SO I was reading the Knit Princess cartoon and stumbled along this pattern called A Recipe for Fish. You can find it on Ravelry here if you want an assortment of pictures and for the pattern you go here.
I'm also disappointed. my favorite blog One Crazy Fiber Lady hasn't posted in a while. :(
Have a good week! -SpinKnitLove12 :)

Spinning Wheel News!

[Illustration]I have been hooked on my spinning wheel lately. The only reason I have had trouble treadling is because my dad but it together wrong but my brother fixed it. I have already spun 2 bobbins full of yarn that I think is just gorgeous. I'm going to ply the brown and the white while watching the super bowl later.
I also have wanted to name my spinning wheel. My mom suggested Rapunzel but that has nothing to do with spinning whatsoever. I've been thinking Queen Victoria or the princess from sleeping beauty but then I found this fairy tale called The Golden Spinning Wheel. The character Dobrunka (what I'm calling my spinning wheel) is sort of like Cinderella except she only has 1 evil sister ans an evil mother. I don't really want to summarize the fairytale but you should really read it.

Perfection!

beauty shot

Today I just got sick of waiting to use my spinning wheel. I didn't care that I haven't received a lesson yet. So using this super soft 100% brown wool my sister gave me for Christmas I was off. It's so fun even though I'm not good at it.

No more Midterms! Took the last one today, it took about 20 minutes. Should I be worried? Sadly today I've been neglecting my knitting but I did finish one sock yesterday. :)
I also couldn't resist Ravelry. I found this Dunes Shawl from Knitty (Shown Above). So pretty! I need to start it as soon as I finish my socks for Awesome Girl.
I must get of the computer. Online fiber stores are tempting me. I also want to spin.

P.S. Something wacky is going on with my computer, sorry.

I Love Socks!

Remember the pair of socks I mentioned I was making at the beginning of the month. Well after casting on and doing the ribbing i kind of forgot about them until late last night. After my Social Studies Midterm today I was knitting on the bus. I few more rounds I can turn the heel! I know I'm pathetic but this is exciting!
My love of socks continues luckily since 95% of my stash is sock yarn. I probably shouldn't have have but I found this gorgeous sock pattern called Nutkin. I couldn't help it, it's so pretty! It's free if you want to try it.
If you do email me or post in the comments, I want to know the difficulty before I try it.
Now I should go, must finish Zig Zag Socks!

P.S. It doesn't feel like January, does it?

Decisions

Lately I've been hating band. I won't practice anymore, mainly because every time I do my band director tells me it doesn't sound like I practice, so what's the point? Instead of playing trumpet I go for my spinning or my knitting. What is wrong with me do you ask. I have . . .
FIBER FEVER!
Ominous Music.
Also finished that headband I've been working on. I think I'm going to wear during my Math mid-term on Thursday. Today we had a 2 hour delay but apparently I still have to take my Science mid-term.
Well I've got to go the bus is going to be here any minute to pick me up.

Who Knew?

This week has been lacking some fiber fun. I'd been working on this beautiful Knotwork Cabled Headband
pattern I found on Ravelry it's gorgeous really. But after Taekwondo I went to the library, big mistake, maybe.
I found this great new series the Iron King series I started yesterday and I'm already on the second book. I read it through Percussion Ensemble and after Cosmic Bowling. I highly recommend it.
                                               Beautimous!

Now you may have heard of this already but it totally shocked me. I was reading my Lion Brand newsletter and it was talking about Mangalista pigs. Apparently they have fleece like sheep that you can use.
I think this is the coolest thing ever! I wonder if you could use them for bacon too. Yum!

Longest Day Ever!

School is rough! I need time to get the hang of my spinning wheel but with all my homework it's impossible! They even canceled chess club! The only upside of today is I had a band lesson so I got to zone out for 40 minutes and skip social studies. Anyway you don't need to listen to me blab about boringness.
Lately I've been reading this blog One Crazy Fiber Lady. Have I mentioned this before? Well anyway I am really happy because she friended me on Ravelry and she's been posting more stuff recently: Hint hint she got a new wheel! Squeal! But you've got to start following her. A code monkey and a spinner!
Today I also realized I need help with my spinning on my wheel, I can't figure it out, I am so terrible. This is the one time YouTube videos can't help me out, I'm going to see if I can get a lesson from  The Village Yarn and Fiber Shop
Did I also tell you guys I painted the wheel part on my wheel lime green like the one I found on Google Images except the stain I chose is darker. I would be on Cloud 9 if all I had to do was stay home to spin and knit, oh what the heck I'm already on Cloud 9! :)
Don't forget to friend me on Ravelry!

Love 2014!

So far 2014 has been awesome. I guess the life of a seventh grader must go on. I've been kept busy since school started back up again. Just wish school allowed more time for spinning and knitting. Oh well. Recently I watched a video spinning on my Ashford Kiwi 2. She has great videos for beginners like me. I found her channel which you can find here.
Top Whorl Drop Spindle - SpindlePopI've also been considering adding another drop spindle to my collection. My mom thinks the idea is absurd but since she is not a fellow spinner she does not understand there are different wheels for different purposes and different drop spindles for different yarn weights. Here's a picture, it's so small it fits in a small M&M container. If you want one too the store is called Tilt A Whorl.
There were also these really cool spiky ones. I'm in spindle heaven! Ah. . . .

Sorry if this post is getting long but I've been reading some blogs like weekendknitter.com and crazyfiberlady.com/blog/ and I hate when they have short posts.
Currently I've been making some Zig-to-the-Zag Socks which is a free pattern on Ravelry. I'm making another pair for, let's call her Awesome Girl. She doesn't have any fiber skills but she is still awesome.
They are so cute and can't wait until I finish! Squee!
Here's a picture, not of the one's I'm making though because they don't even resemble socks yet.

Thanks for reading if you stuck around this long!

Fiber Store!

I feel like such an idiot because I thought there were no store that sold spinning fiber in my area. Today I found out I stand corrected!  :) I was using the magical Google and found this amazing store called the Village Yarn and Fiber Shop which is in East Rochester. I mean sure it's like what, a 30-45 minute drive away? I mean that's closer than this spinning store in Bainbridge that I bought wool from at the Fiber Fest in Hemlock. This place also has workshops and sit and knits or crochets. It's so perfect I think I'm dreaming. If I am "pinch" me please.

Below this caption is a picture of their booth at the Finger Lakes Fiber Festival that was in Hemlock.

Stains!

Well, since my mom bought my spinning wheel unfinished I went to Lowe's yesterday with my brother to get some sandpaper and stain. I only have half of the first coat of stain on. I am so impatient though! :p
I'm going to finish the rest of the first coat today though, then tomorrow I can do light sanding and finish staining. Wish me luck!
I also didn't forget about my followers who don't like listening to me blabbing on and on. I found this video on YouTube from Namaste Farms about Beginning Spinning Tips,
